Four Session Pro Tips

Pro Tips
For Your Session

If I had a nickel for every time a couple has told me that they are “a bit awkward” and might need some help during their session, I could buy myself dozens of Arizona iced teas.

A key role in my job as your photographer is to make you feel as comfortable as possible. This means creating a space for you to be fully yourselves so that I may capture you in your most authentic essence. To do this, I help set intentions before we begin our session, by guiding you into genuine moments that are true to you.

To help get us in this comfortable headspace, I share a thorough Session Guide with heaps of tips and tricks to set the tone for our time together. Being on the same page allows us to be extra cozy with each other and know what our goal is together. My Session Guides walk through all the do’s and don’ts, plus a lot (and I mean A LOT) of extras. And in this brief post, I’ll be sharing my top four tips for leaning into your session with authenticity so that your photos reflect your true selves.

Stiff, awkward poses are a big no for me. When you look back on your photos, I want you to remember how good you felt, not how weird it was to put your hand on your hip like that.

I don’t pose you, period. I focus on genuine moments and interactions. That means the more you’re loving on each other, the better! These tips will help us get the most from you just being you:

1. Engage with each other!

Real interaction is needed to show your authentic connection in your photos. Nuzzle in, hug tight, make each other laugh!

2. The more movement, the better.

Playful touches like kisses on the cheek or fingers in your hair will create more variety in your photos.

3. Go with your flow!

While I may guide you into some positions, you don’t have to wait for my direction. If it feels right, go for it!

4. When in doubt, be slow.

This is your time to act like you’re in a romance film. Take your time and enjoy!

The only way that I can photograph your authentic selves, is if you bring them to the session. If you want photos that reflect your sincere love, you’re going to have to show me what you’re all about. Lean into your vulnerability and I’ll do the rest.

Also, it’s okay to be nervous! I’m asking you to be vulnerable, nerves are to be expected.  I’ll help you set your intentions before we begin and refocus on why we’re capturing these celebratory moments.
